St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School

PE Activities

Many different sports clubs run throughout the year, before and after school and during lunchtimes.  We offer a broad selection of activities, and encourage all children to come along to take part in our clubs.  The clubs offered are Athletics, Cross-country, Tag-Rugby, Tri-Golf, Netball, Dodgeball, Tennis, Dance, Zumba, Gaelic football, Change for Life, Multi-skills, Rounders, Cricket and Football.

Many of the participants of these clubs are then selected for school sports teams to represent St. Joseph’s school in the many tournaments and festivals throughout the year.

Netball

Our Year 6 Girls’ Netball team is selected in September. They participate in leagues and tournaments throughout the school year. Training sessions take place every Wednesdays after school.

The Year 5 Girls’ Netball team is selected later on in the year.  They train during the week at lunchtimes and also take part in competitions during the year.

Football

The Year 6 Football squad is selected early in the school year, and participates in the preliminary and then League games during the year.  There is also an annual 5-a-side Tournament at Playfootball.net that the boys compete in.

The Year 5 team squad is selected later on in the year, and participates in a 5-a-side tournament at Playfootball.net.

Football training and clubs in school are run at Lunchtimes.  We are very fortunate to have ‘Luton Town in the Community’ coaches twice a week, coaching the Year 5 and 6 teams .We are hoping to continue with a  Girls’ Football club this year.

The coaching of Year 3 and 4 teams is assisted by the Year 6 squad, who run drills, develop skills and then referee small sided games.

Athletics

In preparation for the Town Sportshall Athletics competitions held at Inspire each year, Athletics clubs are run for Years 3/4 and Year 5/6, developing the children’s running, jumping and throwing skills.

Cross country running has become a very well attended activity in KS2, and we have participated very successfully in competitions in Luton town.

Over the past year, our sports teams have participated in Sportshall Athletics, Boccia, Kurling,  Girls and Boys Netball, Basketball, Cricket, Orienteering , Badminton, Tag-Rugby, Tennis,  Multi-skills, Girls and Boys Football, Tri-golf, Dancing, Cheerleading, Rounders and Ultimate Frisbee festivals or competitions.

Over the past number of years we have had coaches from Active Luton running sessions before, during and after school in a variety of sports, developing and refining the children’s skills in these activities.
