St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School

Physical Education (PE)

From the time our children start in EYFS until they leave us at the end of Year 6, they will have many opportunities to engage in the varied aspects of PE, physical activity and school sport offered here.   At St. Joseph’s, we strongly believe that these activities contribute to the holistic development of young people, giving them the chance to develop and refine their God-given talents.

Through a wide and varied PE curriculum, delivered by class teachers, PE specialists and outside coaches, using a variety of regularly updated resources and equipment, our children are inspired to succeed and excel in activities involving physical competence and control.  By accessing these many experiences, children gain confidence, enjoying the fun, and understanding the importance of physical activity for their health and wellbeing.

Through our involvement in the School Games, children take part in many competitions and other events, such as football, netball, rugby, tri-golf, tag-rugby, badminton, swimming and basketball - which build character and embed key values such as teamwork, fairness and respect for themselves and others. All children are encouraged to achieve their personal best.

We recognise that PE, physical activity and school sport make an extensive contribution towards aspects of pupils’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
