St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School

International School Award

In September 2017, St. Joseph's was accredited with the full International School Award 2017- 2020. The assessor noted how 'The Catholic faith underpins the schools' approach and the curriculum celebrates the diversity of St. Joseph's and its hometown.'  For further information about the Award please read the attached press release.

As part of celebrating our diverse school community we organise Multi Cultural Celebration Days, which are supported by Parents and Carers. Every class has the opportunity to visit the many stalls in the 'cultural market place' and take part in activities such as traditional dance, clothing and music, as well as hair braiding, jewellery and henna hand art painting. In addition we are very fortunate to taste a wide variety of food and traditional dishes from many different cultures.

We are continuing our international work across the curriculum as part of our application towards re-accreditation during this academic year.

Junior Language Challenge and eTwinning;

All staff have received training on eTwinning and contacts abroad will be established, for the purposes of enriching our curriculum and promoting pupils knowledge and understanding of the wider world. The school has just been awarded its third eTwinning quality label for a French themed project.

The Junior Language Challenge is due to be re-launched shortly, and we hope that the children will engage with this initiative, which develops independent learning skills in a range of languages.  St. Joseph's pupils have qualified for the Semi-finals in the last two competitions and we hope to continue to build on this success. Thank you and well done to Mrs Bingham for her commitment to coordinating our international work.
