Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

Welcome to PSHE at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School!

Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all children’s education at St Joseph’s. Our PSHE curriculum reflects the needs of our children and is taught through many subject areas, to equip our pupils with an understanding of risks and the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions in their daily lives. Visitors to our school, such as the police or local dentist, enrich the pupils’ experiences and add further depth to their education.

In Years 1 through to 6 the pupils are taught through three core themes: Relationships, Living in the Wider World and Health and Well-being.

Each core theme is further sub-divided. Through the theme of Relationships, the children explore their own families and friendships, safe relationships and how to respect themselves and others.

Through the theme of Living in the Wider World, the children explore how they belong to a community (including our school and church communities), media literacy, digital resilience as well as money and work.

Through the theme of Health and Wellbeing, the children will explore their own physical health and mental well-being, growing and changing and how to keep safe in the environments they live, study and play in.

For further information, please look at the ‘Curriculum Aims’ document which contains the intent, implementation and impact for PSHE. Please also look at the ‘Knowledge and Skills Progression Ladder’ document to see how each pupil’s learning journey is developed, as they progress through each academic year at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.
