Computing

Welcome to computing at St Joseph’s where our children are given the opportunity to develop their natural creativity and skills to become active participants in an increasingly digital world! From Year 1, our children are taught to build on their problem-solving skills. This in turn makes them more resilient learners.

Computing is an extremely holistic subject, one which we strive to make truly cross-curricular - from TimesTable Rockstars for maths, to using search engines as a research tool for science and English. As computing is one of our ‘Creative Curriculum’ subjects, the children are able to explore the different aspects of computing as part of a relevant theme that they are learning.

All children at St Joseph’s are given the opportunity to explore, understand, apply and extend their computational knowledge through designated time in the computer suite. The children have additional opportunities in class to use different technologies throughout the week, e.g. iPads and Chromebooks.

Our computing curriculum is arranged into three main categories for all learners at St Joseph’s; Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.

For more detailed information on computing at St Joseph’s, please see the ‘Curriculum Aims’ and ‘Knowledge and Skills Progression Ladder’ below.
