"Pupils develop highly positive attitudes to learning because relationships with staff are strong. Adults encourage pupils to ‘have a go’ and reinforce the message that they should work without fear of failure. Consequently, pupils willingly try new things, confident that their teachers and learning support assistants will help them if they go wrong or get stuck."

Year 3

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Luton, Year 3 marks an exciting transition into Key Stage 2. We place children’s wellbeing and confidence at the heart of this change, helping them settle into new routines, understand expectations and develop greater independence.

Building on their achievements in Year 2, we use careful assessment to identify each child’s strengths and next steps, providing the support and challenge they need to succeed. Our broad and engaging curriculum encourages children to explore new ideas, deepen their knowledge and apply their reading, writing and mathematical skills with increasing confidence. We maintain high expectations for all pupils, adapting teaching so that every child feels included, valued and able to participate.

Guided by our mission, “In the Light of Jesus we Learn to Shine,” we nurture curiosity, resilience and enjoyment as children begin this next stage of their learning.
