"Pupils develop highly positive attitudes to learning because relationships with staff are strong. Adults encourage pupils to ‘have a go’ and reinforce the message that they should work without fear of failure. Consequently, pupils willingly try new things, confident that their teachers and learning support assistants will help them if they go wrong or get stuck."

Year 6

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Luton, Year 6 is a time to celebrate children’s achievements and prepare them for a confident transition to high school.

Our broad and engaging curriculum strengthens pupils’ knowledge and skills while developing the independence, organisation and resilience they will need in Key Stage 3. We maintain high expectations for every child, adapting teaching and providing support and challenge to meet individual needs. Alongside academic preparation, we help children explore their feelings about change, manage friendships, ask for help and approach new experiences positively.

Working in partnership with families and receiving secondary schools supports a smooth transition, particularly for children who need additional reassurance or tailored support. Explore our curriculum subject pages and the Year 6 knowledge organisers below to discover more.

Guided by our mission, “In the Light of Jesus we Learn to Shine,” we encourage pupils to leave St Joseph’s proud of their progress, aware of their unique gifts and ready to contribute to their new school communities.
