"Pupils develop highly positive attitudes to learning because relationships with staff are strong. Adults encourage pupils to ‘have a go’ and reinforce the message that they should work without fear of failure. Consequently, pupils willingly try new things, confident that their teachers and learning support assistants will help them if they go wrong or get stuck."

Year 4

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Luton, Year 4 is a time for children to deepen their understanding, grow in independence and embrace new challenges.

Building on their learning in Year 3, our broad and engaging curriculum encourages pupils to explain their thinking, solve problems and apply their knowledge with increasing confidence. We maintain high expectations for every child, using ongoing assessment to provide support and challenge that reflect individual needs.

In Year 4, children begin swimming lessons as part of our Physical Education curriculum, developing confidence in the water, swimming skills and an understanding of water safety. Explore our curriculum subject pages and the Year 4 knowledge organisers below to discover more about children’s learning.

Guided by our mission, “In the Light of Jesus we Learn to Shine,” we nurture resilience, teamwork and enjoyment, helping every child feel included and celebrate their progress.
